(not) back to school

Well, for the first time since September 2011 I am not starting a new semester of university. I guess technically I’m not starting school for the first time since something like September 1995, but I can’t think of it like that or I’ll lose my marbles. Already there’s a sense of something new in the smokey air, and it’s 72% super exciting and 28% terrifying. What a strange feeling to be without a class schedule, weekly lessons, and finals looming in 12 weeks. It is slightly liberating, but freedom comes with responsibility. Now, instead of Jackie being my glorious task-master, I am my own task-master, and so far I’ve been taking a lot of naps with Zeus. I have been taking a few days here and there to catch up on my humanity after a challenging and limit-pushing summer, but now that school has started for so many people, I feel like I must get back to the grind.

It’s mind-boggling to me that three weeks ago I was finishing my last summer program and seasons are already being announced for next summer! Even the thought of getting back on YAPtracker is a little tiring, but I also know that this summer was so hard in such a healthy way that I want my summer 2018 to be just as busy or more so! Mostly kidding on that one, because three programs are definitely enough, and who knows, maybe I’ll be getting paid next summer instead of paying… In the meantime, I will be applying to all of these programs that provide me with invaluable experiences and take me outside of my comfort zones consistently.

With all of these plans in the making, I am also having a week of new beginnings. Continue reading
